NSW Tourism Awards: A win for Rock Oyster Country!

Eurobodalla Mayor Mat Hatcher, Ben & Kelly Plenty from Foxdog Distillery, Kalina Koloff Chair of Destination Southern NSW, Narooma Rocks Marketing and Comms Manager Sarah Chenhall, Destination Southern NSW Industry Manager Jenny Robb and Destination Southern NSW Director Sarah McDougall.

Eurobodalla and the South Coast were on show at the NSW Tourism Awards on November 27 – and we brought home Silver for the Festivals and Events Category!

We are absolutely thrilled, and dedicate this win to the South Coast oyster farmers, the team of around 100 volunteers, the local community, and to everyone who comes along to enjoy our annual celebration of the Rock Oyster!

“There is nowhere else in the world where a year-round, sustainable food says so much about a place and its people,” General Manager Renee Pearce said.

“The South Coast is renowned as one of the best oyster growing regions in the world and we are proud to be a driver which elevates the profile of the Rock Oyster and its growers. The festival delivers huge benefits to the community and we couldn’t do this without them – so this one is for you Narooma!”

Held annually on the first weekend of May, the event showcases the South Coast’s world-class Rock Oysters in every element of the program with highlights being Oyster Farmers Alley, the Australian Oyster Shucking Championships, Australia’s Biggest Oyster and Ultimate Oyster Experiences. New events in 2026 include Shucking Classes, additional cruises on Wagonga Inlet and new ways to enjoy the cooking demonstrations and live music.

“We also extend our congratulations to Crank It Up who won Gold in the same category, and Foxdog Distillery who won silver in the New Tourism Business category. Together we make our home a wonderful place to live and to visit.”

Evolving from a small, local gathering into one of the region’s largest food and drink events, the Festival attracts around 10,000 visitors who stay almost six nights to enjoy the three day program and its prelude, Rock Oyster Week, giving a 98% satisfaction rating.

The Festival drives significant economic benefit to the region, generating a $4.7million dollar boost in 2025 and creating 23 full time equivalent jobs.

The next Narooma Oyster Festival will take place on the first weekend of May, following Rock Oyster Week from April 16. Tickets will be released on Wednesday, February 4.
