Love oysters and festival vibes? Like to give back to your community? Narooma Oyster Festival has opened applications for volunteers for the 2022 festival to be held at Forsters Bay on May 6 & 7.
Each year around 100 volunteers help to deliver the festival, which generated $2 million dollars for the region providing an important boost to the region’s economic recovery after fires, floods and the impacts of coronavirus lockdowns. Festival volunteers are highly valued and play an integral part in many aspects of the festival, from helping out during festival weekend to behind-the-scenes tasks that take place in the months leading up to the festival. Each ‘volly’ receives a Festival ticket and an exclusive T-shirt, along with support over the weekend including refreshments in the volunteer marquee.
“Joining our wonderful volunteer team is a tangible and fun way to support local tourism and the community,” said Narooma Oyster Festival Volunteer Coordinator, Lyn Brown.
“Each year people help out across a whole range of roles, from assisting with the cooking program to helping visitors to explore the festival and the wider Eurobodalla region, so if you can spare four hours or more before, during or even after the festival we would love to hear from you!”
“In particular we require volunteers with current RSA certification, so if you have this certificate please get in touch, or share this information with your networks,” Lyn said.
The Festival works closely with Australian National Events, who take care of a lot of logistics and heavy lifting however there are still opportunities to help out with the festival set-up on Thursday, May 5 and Friday, May 6 and the pack down on Sunday, May 8.
“As a past volunteer for the Festival, I know first-hand that it’s a great way to be part of the action with lots of fun, food and oysters! We would love your help for a few hours, or even for the whole weekend” Lyn said.
